Q. I HAVE MY CHILDREN WITH ME CAN WE ALL STAY AT THE HAVEN?

A. Yes, we have rooms available for women with their children - up to 5 children, depending on availability.

 

Q. I DON’T HAVE MY CHILDREN WITH ME, CAN I STILL STAY AT THE HAVEN?

A. Yes, we have single rooms available too.

 

Q. HOW LONG CAN I/WE STAY AT THE HAVEN?

A. The Haven can provide up to 3 months accommodation depending on availability. We will work with you to transition you to alternative safe housing during this time.

 

Q. CAN I BRING MY PETS?

A. Unfortunately we are not able to have pets at The Haven, however the RSPCA have a Safe Beds for Pets program that can assist, they can be contacted on 02 9782 4408.

 

Q. WHAT IF I LEAVE HOME WITHOUT ANYTHING CAN YOU HELP ME GET MY STUFF?

A. We can support women and children staying at The Haven to obtain personal items or replacement items to ensure you have the necessities.

 

Q. IS THERE ANYWHERE I CAN STORE MY FURNITURE?

A. We can support women and children staying at The Haven to organise storage options for your furniture.

 

Q. WHAT SORT OF PEOPLE COME TO THE HAVEN?

A. Women, with or without their children, who are experiencing domestic violence and need a safe place to stay/sleep. Women do NOT need to have an ADVO or to have reported to Police, to be able to stay at The Haven. The Haven has disability access and is open to migrant and refugee women, regardless of your residency or Visa status. 

 

Q. WILL I HAVE TO SHARE A ROOM WITH OTHER PEOPLE?

A. No, each woman has her own bedroom to share with her children. Living area’s, kitchens and bathrooms are shared.

 

Q. HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN THE HAVEN ACCOMMODATE?

A. We can accommodate six families or individual women at The Haven.

 

Q. HOW IS IT FOR CHILDREN AT THE HAVEN BECAUSE I AM WORRIED ABOUT BRINGING THEM?

A. The Haven is set up as a home and provides a safe, warm, and friendly place where you and your family can escape abuse and get support to rebuild a life free from domestic violence. 

 

Q. I HAVE DIFFICULTY WITH MOBILITY CAN I STILL BE ACCOMMODATED?

A. Yes we have disability access, however we are still working on wheelchair access at the moment.

 

Q. I’M WORRIED MY EX-PARTNER WILL TRY TO FIND ME, WHAT SORT OF SECURITY DO YOU HAVE? 

A. The Haven is staffed 24/7 with qualified and experienced domestic violence workers who understand the importance of safety. The location of The Haven is kept confidential and a security system is installed. While we have the most up to date systems in place to keep our women safe, we do expect that the women who stay with us, help to keep themselves and other residents safe by not disclosing the location of our shelter or themselves.

 

Q. CAN I HAVE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OVER TO VISIT?

A. No, the location of The Haven needs to remain confidential.

 

Q. CAN I GO OUT TO VISIT FAMILY AND FRIENDS?

A. Absolutely, you are free to come and go as you would normally.
